My graduation announcement

My extended family has no earthly idea about who I am or what I am about. So, I took this opportunity to share my story using the skills I had learned.

I also made it abundantly clear that this is just an announcement, not an invitation. It worked.

I always thought it was funny/meta that a tastefully, over-designed graduation announcement about graduating from design school ended up winning awards for design.

Origami as a storytelling device

Creative Summit 25
Sue Reynolds Memorial Award

AIGA Texas Show 2012
2nd Place – Student Work Category

2010 Art Directors Club of Houston
Bronze Medal

This piece is based on the story of a young girl being trafficked. The story progresses as it is unfolded. When unfolded completely, a poster for the organization is revealed.

About a year or so after having this project online, some SMF board members discovered it. When the piece was on display in New York for the 2012 AIGA Texas Show, I asked that the pieces be donated to them.

Fixing Haribo

AIGA Blue Ridge Flux 2011 National Student Exhibition
Selected Entry

We’ve all seen Haribo’s packaging and probably wondered how something so tasty can be packaged in something so tacky. This packaging system can be adapted to for any Haribo product with the exception of the Licorice Wheels—those already have the packaging they deserve.

My Saul Bass phase

2009 Art Directors Club of Houston
Bronze Medal (Student)

This show covers a lot of very real, scary, close to home topics, yet it is a comedy. With that in mind, a colorful and playful geometric visual style was used to lighten the subject matter.

Failed dreams

2009 Art Directors Club of Houston
Silver Medal (Student)

The items found at a yard sale can say a lot about a person. A total stranger can see where someone’s been, their passions, their triumphs, and their failures.

Making the most of downtime

I had a ton of free-time after graduating. It felt weird. I took this time to revisit some old work. I don’t think it was ever submitted to anything, but people seem to like it when they see it.

It’s kinda like looking at career baby pictures, eh?
